Finally, some intensive care for Central NY’s beleaguered youths with no place to go: Upstate University Hospital is opening a small but heavily staffed facility for kids with severe and sometimes dangerous behaviors who have no place to go for care. The 11-bed unit is for kids 5 to 17 with conditions such as autism or cerebral palsy, whose anger or outbursts can be too much for family or traditional hospital settings to manage. It will be the only facility of its kind in New York, Upstate leaders said.
